3D Laser Scanning

hight-map from a 3D laser scanner This is false-colour hight-map done of me with an old CyberWare 3D laser scanner. You wouldn't normally use it in its raw form, you would convert it into a 3D model to use in CGI (movies) or CAD stuff.

The best way to visualise this is to mentally roll the image into a cylinder and the lighter bits stick out more than the dark bits.

It was converted to PNG format by cwi2png.php (runs on Linux or FreeBSD) which I hope to release shortly.

The scanner used produced a hight-map of 512 by 256 elements which are stored in a file. The blue parts are missing data points.
