3D scanning is a fantastic way to capture objects into the computer via laser scanning techniques.
3D laser scanning offers accurate ways to capture every detail of your subject, using 3D laser scanning to capture your object has obvious advantages over any other method, it does not touch the object, therefore it cannot alter the objects shape.
When you scan a human head using a Cyberware 3D head scanning rig, it takes just 12 seconds to capture a complete one piece mesh, the laser scanning rig moves very quickly therefore it does not stay in any place on the head for long.
The lasers in used in 3D scanning machines are low wattage and offer no risk when scanning human subjects.

- Small objects (sculptures, pots models) are placed on a turntable.
- A low-power laser scans vertically creating a thin red line down the object.
- A camera is placed at an angle to the vertical laser line.
- The laser line is bent according the the shape of the object at that point which the camera sees as a bent red line.
- The turntable is rotated by a small amount and the process is repeated until all 360 degrees are done.
- The resulting images are combined into a 3D computer file format like Lightwave.
