ZOPA Hosts its fifth year in operation with a party at The Icon Bar and Terrace in Leicester Square, London on March 11th 2010

The party was attended by ZOPA CEO Giles Andrews and his team, ZOPA lenders and borrowers. Getting to the party proved a bit difficult because you had to fight through the huge crowds who had come to see Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler premier their latest movie "Bounty Hunter".

The party was very good, I got a chance to meet the ZOPA team and made a few more interesting friends. I had a two hour discussion about Internet Start-ups and how to create and promote them.

ZOPA allows you to lend money directly to other members without the banks being involved. The borrowers are credit-checked and ZOPA is regulated by the FSA. A typical savings account will earn between 1% ~ 2% (as at March 2010) but with ZOPA, returns as high as 6% ~ 7% are possible. Some members can get even higher than that by lending into riskier markets.
